OK MY List of Favorite Things
I just went through and read several My Favorite Things posted by MM students. I really enjoyed the lists, there are some creative writers out there AND I enjoyed reading about what you like be it paintball, metal, photography, animals or frozen cardboard.
Here are my favorite things, in no particular order:
Nature~ I love being outdoors in the trees, plants, mountains, hills, lakes, streams, fields, beaches....There is nothing like the smell of a forest, the wind in your hair and sun on your face. Much of the art I create involves nature.
Travel~ Whether visiting a interesting place in Oregon, travelling to spots in the US or going abroad, I love to travel! Seeing new places that are not my home excites me. I have lived in and visited several states(WA, CA, ID, MT, CO, NV, AZ, NM, TX, FL, NJ, IL, NY, SC, NC, ......), travelled to Canada, Mexico, Germany, various Carribean islands and Australia. I almost got to go to Thailand. :) I hope to make it to Europe, specifically Italy, Spain and Greece. England, Scotland, Ireland, New Zealand and Central/South America. Maybe Fiji too. And Russia. And Turkey. Montenegro.....
Friends & Family Time~ I feel lucky any time I can spend with family and friends. With life going in so many directions(work taking up a lot of time), getting away from responsibility and socializing with friends and family by sharing a meal, a movie or a vacation is something I always look forward to.
Art~ I like art in almost any form. I like to make it, I like to see it in galleries and museums, I like to purchase it when I can. The art I like to do is mainly drawing, specifically pastel and colored pencil. I've been interested in landscapes and plants/flowers lately. I have been known to do some portraiture now and again, though simplified not super realism. I prefer realistic and abstract pieces where I can understand the subject and artist intent. I least like non objective pieces, and ones that are over complex and busy. I loved visiting the Chicago Art Museum last summer, lots of famous works there! The last work of art I purchased was a hand made sugar bowl and cream pitcher made by a central Oregon potter.
Movies~ I love to get lost in movies, specifically in the movie theater. Its there where you can shut out the world, shut down the constant multi-tasking and get lost in story, sound and pictures. I can watch most anything, though don't like horror films much anymore. The last movies I've seen include Avatar, Sherlock Holmes, Blind Side and 2012(what, no art films there?)

Something I've Created
All humans have an innate need to create. One of the first things you should post on your blog page is something you've created. This can be anything. If you are an artist, you can post a piece of art you've created. If you've written a poem, story or song, you can post that. If you've created a character for a game, post that. What else do people create? Something to eat? Signs? Outfits? Logos?
This is a colored pencil drawing of an oragutan I did several years ago after a visit to the San Diego zoo. I love the color, texture and expression of this composition. Colored pencil is one of my favorite art medias.
